Harry Bull has been thrilled with the progress Benzini has made since his encouraging debut performance in Australia.

"He seems well and he doesn't need to improve much to be in it again," he said.

The six-year-old drew an outside barrier in the Gr.3 Premier's Cup at Doomben and Rosie Myers had little option but to go back before they finished well for third behind Real Love and the New Zealand-bred and owned Puccini.

Benzini will renew his rivalry with both the Darren Weir-trained runners in Saturday's Gr.2 Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm.

"He will meet the winner a kilo and a half better off and a better gate will help," said Bull, who prepares the Tale Of The Cat gelding with his father Adrian.

"He did go well first-up and Rosie rode him very well – she has been happy with his work since then."

Runner-up to Addictive Habit in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic in the spring, Benzini subsequently booked his passage to Queensland with his 10th career victory at Riccarton before he finished second to Authentic Paddy in the Gr.3 Canterbury Gold Cup.

Bull said Benzini's performance in the Brisbane Cup would determine how long they stayed for.

"We'll see what he does, but we might find one more race for him."

Myers has won five races on Benzini and she is confident he will be at his peak on Saturday.

"His effort in the Premier's Cup was a great Brisbane Cup pointer," she said. – NZ Racing Desk.
