Trudy Keegan is one trainer who won't mind if the rain arrives for her home meeting on Thursday.

"It's forecast and if it comes it will help all of our runners, they haven't been suited by the sticky tracks and would prefer loose going," the New Plymouth horsewoman said.

The Per Incanto filly Magicella looks to be a top hope for Keegan in the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race following her debut second at Otaki.

"That took me by surprise a bit to be honest," Keegan said. "She's a big, relaxed filly, in fact she's very lazy.

"Every time she's had a jump-out or trial she has kept improving though so we have no reason to think she won't go well again."

Zimmabelle was out of the money at Awapuni most recently, but Keegan is expecting improvement in the Denis Wheeler Earthmoving Maiden.

"I felt terrible when she went out favourite and she couldn't raise a gallop on a track that was like a glue pot," she said.

"Again, rain would help her and she has come through that last race well."

Chonney will also be out to turn her form around in the Smokeylemon Highweight, although she did have a genuine excuse for her last-start failure.

"She choked at the top of the straight after a bit of mud flicked up at her and she came in really distressed," Keegan said. "The 1600 metres might be a bit short for her so we are also hoping for rain for her."

Angelica Rox is proven on loose ground and she has each way prospects in the Steelfab 1400.

"She's a lovely horse and we're looking to get her over a bit more ground soon," Keegan said.

"Her form has been pretty solid and she wasn't far behind Richie McHorse two runs back and he's a pretty smart horse." – NZ Racing Desk.
