Cortado has pressed her claims for a trip away for a late season shot at black type.
The two-year-old opened her winning account in the Beko Maiden 1200 at Ellerslie on Monday and the Sir Peter Vela-bred and raced filly is now likely to head to Otaki.
"I wouldn't mind having a go at the Ryder Stakes – that's more than a month away so we'll see what happens," said Peter Williams who trains the daughter of Sepoy with his wife Dawn and Paul Richards.
Third on debut behind Hall of Fame and subsequent winner Gingernuts, Cortado enjoyed an ideal run behind the pace and finished off generously along the rail.
"She was ridden to instructions – it's not often I walk a track, but I did and I felt hard up against the fence was as good as anywhere," Williams said.
"He's riding well and we're lucky to have him."
Williams was referring to apprentice to apprentice Doni Prastiyou, who also won on Cortado's stablemate Fire Jet on Saturday.
