Underthemoonlight will be up against it at Ellerslie on Saturday, but that may only be a forerunner of things to come for the lightly-raced mare.
A stern test awaits the one race winner in the Edwards Sounds Chairman's Trophy, an open handicap for the sprinters.
"We are throwing her in at the deep end as we want to find out now if she is up to that grade," trainer Karyn McQuade said.
"Her goals this preparation were to get her into the Rotorua Stakes and then on to the Tauranga Classic.
"Her first couple of runs were on firmer ground, she never got the wet tracks that she needs and she didn't get the points to get in the Rotorua Stakes.
"She's very talented, but if she can't perform in that field on Saturday there would be no point in going to Tauranga."
