Doni Prastiyou hasn't wasted any time in opening his northern account and he is hoping to make the move a permanent one.

"I'm on loan for a couple of months and if everything goes well I might stay on up here – that's the plan," the Malaysian-born jockey said.

Prastiyou was apprenticed to Paul Richards at Wingatui and has recently reunited with the trainer, who is now in partnership at Byerley Park with Peter and Dawn Williams.

"Originally, I was with Jan Hay and then went to Paul and had two years with him," Prastiyou said.

"I started race day riding with him and when he moved I went to Shane Kennedy."

Prastiyou, who will complete his apprenticeship in mid-August, has a career tally of 60 winners with his Listed success in the Pegasus Handicap aboard Red Dirt Girl during last year's New Zealand Cup carnival his biggest win.

He also gained a good deal of satisfaction from his victory aboard Fire Jet, co-trained by Richards, at Auckland last Saturday.

"That was my first ride at Ellerslie – it was special," Prastiyou said. "The ground was pretty testing and the two kilo claim helped him, it was a very good win."

He was also aboard Fire Jet at his previous start when they finished third at Te Rapa and the 24-year-old will continue his association with the son of Tavistock in the Service Foods 1200 at Ellerslie on Saturday.

The winner of two of his seven starts and only once out of the money, Fire Jet should again prove hard to beat under Prastiyou, who will also partner The Talisman for trainer Iain Kennedy in the Thomson's Foodservice 2200. – NZ Racing Desk.
