Westbury Stud will have at least two chances in Saturday's Queensland Oaks to add to their Group One haul this season.
Resident stallion Makfi will be represented by Imposing Lass and Zafiki, if she gains a run off the ballot list, while Encosta de Lago's daughter Alaskan Rose is a graduate of the Karaka farm.
"Imposing Lass looks a top chance and if she got in and the rain came then Zafiki wouldn't be out of it - Robert Smerdon has a good opinion of her," Westbury's Russell Warwick said.
"We would love to have both fillies in the race – it would give us a strong hand as we also bred Alaskan Rose."
Imposing Lass and Zafiki are from the first Southern Hemisphere crop of Makfi, the sire of Gr.1 Australian Oaks winner Sofia Rosa.
"He only had 65 live foals and he's the only sire in Australasia at present to have two individual Group One winners (Marky Mark and Sofia Rosa) from his first crop," Warwick said. "He's punching well above his weight."
Westbury Stud is owned by self-made millionaire Gerry Harvey, of Harvey Norman fame, and is enjoying a stellar run of success including last weekend's Gr.1 Doomben 10,000 winner Music Magnate.
"Gerry has had a fantastic season here. He has bred two Group One winners, Music Magnate and Sofia Rosa, along with Telepathic, Passing Shot, Red Striker and also Ichiban, who won a stakes race at Ellerslie last weekend," Warwick said. – NZ Racing Desk.
