A powerful overseas racing force will have their first New Zealand runner next season.
The China Horse Club has purchased the multiple Group winner Mime, who will remain with trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman for her four-year-old career.
"She will be the first runner here for us," said the Cambridge-based Michael Wallace, the club's racing and bloodstock manager.
"She will go down to Hastings for the spring series with more of a focus on the second and third legs.
"We've had a few horses educated here and then exported to Singapore and we've got the Power-Octapussy filly bought at Karaka with Tony Pike so we are increasing our involvement."
The China Horse Club's interests are widespread and they have wholly owned or part-owned international Group One winners including Australia (English Derby), Tropaios (Singapore Gold Cup) and Johannes Vermeer (Grand Criterium).
They also have interests in the multiple Australian top flight winners and now stallions Dissident, Pride of Dubai and Press Statement.
Their New Zealand acquisition Mime has won four of her 11 starts, including the Gr.2 Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic and the Gr.3 Sunline Vase and she was spelled after finishing fourth in the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks.
She was raced by Hastings breeder-owner Laurence Redshaw, who sadly passed away last Friday.
"He was a long-time client and had horses with me for about 25 years," Baker said. "His best was Lady Kipling and he had Kibbutz, who ran third at his only start and was sold and he won a VRC Derby for David Hayes."
Lady Kipling's 11 wins featured the Cal Isuzu Stakes and the Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes at Group Two level and she was also a multiple Group One placegetter. – NZ Racing Desk.
