Pour Moi's promising son Scared Elixir's eye catching effort inSaturday's BRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Doomben has promoted him to the forefront of discussions for the upcoming Gr. 1 J J AtkinsStakes.
The Tony Pike-trained two-year-old passed his biggest test to date with a performance that, while not producing a victory, has stamped him as one of the major players for the Brisbane Winter Carnival's biggest Group One two-year-old event.
Settling near the rear in the early rush for positions, Sacred Elixir was held up nearing the home turn before dashing home in cramped quarters to finish only 1.3 lengths from the winner Attention. It was run that delighted his trainer who had some reservations before the race.
"Doomben is not really a track that suits him as he is a big horse who needs clear galloping room" Pike said. "To get home like he did was very encouraging and he was still strong well past the post, so it bodes well for the step up to 1600 metres around the roomier Eagle Farm circuit."
While in Ireland overnight another of Pour Moi's progeny was successful at Group level when Only Mine, landed the Gr.3 Lacken Stakes at Naas on Sunday.
The talented Pour Moi filly, who was successful in Listed company as a juvenile last season, defeated the Aidan O'Brien trained Royal Ascot winner Washington DC to take the six-furlong contest for trainer Joe Murphy.
"I always thought she was a very good filly, and I think she proved that today. I think she will be a Group One filly" said Murphy
"She may run next in the Gr.3 Ballyogan Stakes at the Curragh and will probably go to France later in the year for the Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, a race that could suit her."
