Popular South Island jockey Kylie Williams has locked in a date for her raceday return.

Williams, 36, hasn't ridden since last September when she took time off to have her third baby, daughter Rhiarn, who was born in February.

With Rhiarn nearly four months old, Williams has resumed trackwork riding and has booked herself for the ride on Blue Pool Blur in a 1400m maiden at Riccarton next Friday for trainers Tony and Lyn Prendergast.

"I started riding work last week and it will be a couple of weeks before I get up to full fitness but I rode a baby [yearling] this morning and they always test your fitness. I felt pretty good afterwards so I must be travelling all right," Williams said.

Williams, also mum to Logan, 14, and Rico, 8, said Rhiarn was her chief focus but through the help of friends and family she was looking forward to getting back into race riding.

"She's my main priority at the moment and that will limit things. I'll just take the one ride at Riccarton next week and slowly build up from there," Williams said.

"It's just frustrating watching the races at home and seeing horses run for trainers I ride for go around without me. I'm really enjoying even being back trackwork riding and it's certainly helping with the post-baby body too. It's hard to get this game out of your system."

Williams has won 613 races in her 20-year career, including 17 at stakes level. - NZ Racing Desk.
