Kelvin Tyler is enjoying his best ever season and he's now hoping to add northern success to his record.

The Riverton trainer is preparing to hit the road for this Saturday's Wellington meeting with his well-performed duo of Hayley Maree and Timy Tyler.

Hayley Maree has previously performed well at Trentham where she finished fourth in the Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes and then filled the same placing in the Gr.2 Manawatu Challenge Stakes.

While Tyler was a little downhearted by the mare's most recent effort for fourth at Winton, he is happy to let her take her chance in the North Island Challenge Stakes.

"I was a bit disappointed in her last run, but she's very well in herself and she may have just had an off day," he said.

Stablemate Timy Tyler, the winner of the Gr.3 Winter Cup last year, has been in solid form through his autumn campaign.

He placed at Wingatui and Riccarton before he was eighth, and only four and a half lengths off the winner Authentic Paddy in the Gr.3 Canterbury Gold Cup.

Timy Tyler got home well last time out for second in the Wairio Cup and Tyler will step him out over 2100 metres in the Trentham Gold Cup.

"He's doing really well and he'll go to Wanganui after that for the Foxton Cup and, all going well, Hayley Maree will run there in the Ag Challenge Stakes," he said.

Tyler first received his training licence 27 years ago, but subsequently concentrated on dairy farming for the next two decades before returning to the horses and he has already sent out 32 winners this season to beat his previous best mark of 25. – NZ Racing Desk.
