Graham Richardson didn't let his extensive support crew down at Te Rapa where he produced Eprouvez to down a competitive line-up of three-year-olds.
The Matamata horseman wasn't short of company after the $17,000 Karaka purchase was successful in the opening event on Saturday's card, the Hamilton Caterers at Te Rapa 1200.
"It's a great result after we bought this horse for the His Syndicate to get people into racing who didn't think they could afford it," Richardson said.
"There's 100 shares in him and they've all gone berserk here – it's just fantastic."
Although Eprouvez was unplaced at his previous start behind Xtravagant in the Gr.3 Cambridge Breeders' Stakes at Te Rapa, Richardson was upbeat about his prospects on a return to the Hamilton course.
"It was a pretty good run last time out, he just got too far back from the wide draw," he said.
Craig Grylls was able to slot Eprouvez in behind the pace on Saturday and son of Thewayyouare prove too strong for the favoured duo of Windborne and Mongolian Empire in the run home.
"That was a strong effort against a very, very good field," Richardson said.
"I was going to tip him out, but I'll see how he comes through this and we might look at something back here again at the next meeting."
Meanwhile, Eprouvez's highly-regarded stablemate Volpe Veloce is preparing for a trip to the central districts.
"She'll go down for the Castletown Stakes at Wanganui next month," Richardson said.
The filly was an impressive debut winner at Matamata before a minor setback forced her to miss the Listed Hamilton Vets Equine Stakes earlier this month.
"She had a stone bruise, but she's fine now," Richardson said. – NZ Racing Desk.
