Restless youngster Memories Only may get his own way and make another appearance for the season.
Breeder, owner and trainer Linda Laing had every intention of spelling the youngster after his latest run before the Patapan two-year-old had other ideas.
"It's his first preparation and he's had two trials and two races and I thought that was adequate, but he didn't think so," the Cambridge horsewoman said.
"He had a break for three days, but he wouldn't settle and was walking the fence so he's back in."
Memories Only was a trial winner at Rotorua in March before he carried that form over to race day when he produced a game performance to make the perfect start to his career at Rotorua last month.
He then went to Te Rapa where he again led and rallied strongly to push the highly-regarded Ugo Foscolo to a short neck in the Listed Hamilton Vets Equine Stakes.
"He didn't give it up and there's not much between him and Ugo," Laing said.
She is now considering a trip south to Wanganui for the Listed Castletown Stakes on June 4.
"It all depends on the weather," Laing said. "I do want to give him a spell at some stage and send him to Melbourne, but that won't be until after the spring."
Memories Only is a half-brother to Siem Reap, who won four races for Laing and with her father Royce Dowling she also prepared their close relative Durzetta, who won the Gr.3 Eight Carat Classic and the Gr.3 Lion Brown Plate and was also a Group One placegetter. – NZ Racing Desk.
