Balham has been sent for a break with major plans already in place for his next preparation.

The Don Eduardo gelding has enjoyed an excellent campaign and trainers David and Emma Haworth are confident the gelding can go to another level as a six-year-old.

"He's gone to the paddock as he doesn't like wet ground and we'll be bringing him back later on to target next season's big staying races –the New Zealand, Wellington and Auckland Cups," Emma Haworth said.

Balham has been patiently handled and cracked his maiden over ground last spring after earning a cheque in six of his first seven starts.

"He has always gone out and given 100 per cent and he's never gone a bad race for us," Haworth said.

Balham has really furnished this autumn and following placings at Waipukurau and Awapuni he collected his third career success at Hastings before another strong performance saw him triumph at Te Rapa last time out.

Meanwhile, Balham's promising stablemate Estimate is likely to make one more appearance before she is spelled.

"She had a week off after Ellerslie and we'll look to give her another start before she goes out for the winter," Haworth said.

Unplaced in the Gr.2 Championship Stakes, Estimate has been lightly-tried and had won two of her previous four starts while Profile is another exciting young prospect in the stable.

"She's at the pre-trainers and we'll take her along slowly for the spring," Haworth said.

Profile won her first two starts in the spring before she was narrowly beaten by the stakes winner Leeds and was turned out after an unplaced run at Trentham where she copped a rough passage. – NZ Racing Desk.
