Mare the right fit for Queensland

Haunui Farm has a tidy strike rate in Queensland's feature events and their hopes of continuing that trend this winter will rest with their current star Perfect Fit.

"We haven't had that many race there, but we've had a bit of luck, we won the Brisbane Cup with Floria and then we ran second in the Doomben Cup with Octapussy, who we raced in partnership with Peter Walker," studmaster Mark Chitty said.

The Ken and Bev Kelso-trained Perfect Fit will now chase a top Australian title to go with her last-start success in the Gr.1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha.

"At this stage she's going to the Cambridge trials on Tuesday," Chitty said.

"Ken is keen to give her a hit-out and she is due to fly out on the 22nd.

"We're very happy with her after she had a little break and she will go to the QTC Cup on June 4 followed by the Winter Stakes (Tatt's Tiara) on the 25th."

Chitty said they hoped the Queensland carnival would provide the ideal stage for their daughter of former farm resident Elusive City and the triple Group One winner Fayreform.

"She's only had three starts this year and we won't be having an early try in the spring, possibly later, so that's why Queensland is really appealing as she hasn't been over-raced.

"Travelling is never easy on horses, but as long as she can display the form she has showed here then we feel she is going to be very competitive."

Perfect Fit has won six of her 11 starts and has yet to finish out of the money. – NZ Racing Desk.
