Volpe Veloce can end a perfect two-year-old campaign with victory at Te Rapa on Saturday.

She will look to add performance to her pedigree in the Listed Hamilton Vet Services Equine 2Y0 and head to the spelling paddock with her unbeaten record intact.

Purchased by Graham Richardson at Karaka for $240,000, Volpe Veloce was a runaway winner on debut with a performance of great satisfaction to the Matamata trainer.

"I was absolutely thrilled and relived to a degree," he said. "When people support you to buy a filly like this it's a big, big thrill."

A half-sister by Foxwedge to the Australian stakes winner Delago Bolt, Volpe Veloce will be put aside after this weekend and return to follow a three-year-old programme similar to the one successfully followed this season by a stablemate.

"We might look at the Gold Trail Stakes and then do the South Island circuit to get some points and black type like Strada Cavallo did," Richardson said.

Strada Cavallo, runner-up in this season's NZB Filly of the Year series, won the Listed John Grigg Stakes at Ashburton before she finished runner-up in the Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas at Riccarton.

Meanwhile, Richardson has a strong team engaged at his home Matamata meeting on Wednesday and rated Precision Miss (NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race) and Wildflower (Matamata Glass & Joinery 1600) among his best chances.

"Precision Miss has drawn the outside, which is very disappointing, but if she gets a good run in transit she will be a really nice chance and Wildflower should have won her last start," Richardson said. – NZ Racing Desk.
