With the reintroduction of the infield steeplechase lane at Te Rapa, the Waikato Racing Club will on Friday open its course to steeplechasers preparing for the club's two upcoming jumps racedays.

Te Rapa's five-jump lane was closed last winter due to the development of an inside trial track, but with that work completed the full steeplechase course will be in use for the opening day of the northern jumps season on May 7 and Waikato Steeplechase-Hurdles day a fortnight later.

A delegation of jumps jockeys and trainers inspected the Te Rapa steeplechase course on Tuesday and welcomed the club's offer to open the fences for schooling on Friday.

Horses with at least one half of their steeplechasing ticket can be entered with the NZTR Bureau by 12 noon on Thursday for the schooling session scheduled for 10.30am the following day.
