Thenamesbond is on target for another tilt at the Waikato Hurdles at Te Rapa next month.
Trainer Stephen Ralph has his sights set on winning the Porrit Sand-sponsored event on his home track and believes Thenamesbond is on the right track.
"I took him to the Cambridge jumps trials last Friday and he flew the jumps and put 10 lengths on them part way through the trial," said Ralph. "Michael Mitchell rode him and he took hold and eased him back to the field. He could have lapped them."
Thenamesbond won his 2000-metre hurdle heat by a length from Dezignator and resumed in a Rating 65 over 2100m at Avondale on Monday when unplaced after leading.
Thenamesbond has won five of his 16 hurdle starts and three of those successes came last year. His wins included the K.S. Browne Hurdles at Ellerslie and the Rotorua and Bay Of Plenty Hunt Cup and he finished a creditable fifth in the Great Northern Hurdles.
