Amberley owner-trainer Kieran McCauley didn't have to look far for a drink to celebrate his long-overdue win after Admiral Rous scored at Riccarton last Saturday.
McCauley operates a brewery producing craft beer and has recently opened a small bar in the Amberley township.
Admiral Rous' winwas the first training success for McCauley for 19 years, since May 1997 when Firstov Emblem won at a North Canterbury meeting in the hands of Terry Kennedy.
"I got Firstov Emblem down from Graeme Sanders and won four races with him," recalled McCauley.
"Since then I've had a horse or two. Neill Ridley trained Admiral Rous for me until I decided to have a go myself."
