Last Saturday's Ellerslie meeting confirmed one member of Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs' team for the Queensland Winter Carnival and uncovered another possible campaigner, Astara, for the trip.

Volkstok'n'barrell was given the tick of approval for his Queensland campaign when stretching out strongly in an exhibition gallop, breaking a minute (59.69 seconds) for the last 1000 of his 1400-metre gallop with the final 600 in 34.2.

"He's definitely going in the right direction," said Logan.

Volkstok'n'barrell will make his Queensland debut in the Gr.2 Hollindale Cup on May 7 with Blake Shinn booked for the ride.

Astara was impressive when winning the Listed Champagne Stakes and Logan will discuss with her Perth owner-breeder, Neven Botica, the possibility of putting her on a Queensland flight with the Gr.2 Sires' Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 28 and the Gr.1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 11 the targets.

"I'll put a saddle on her tomorrow (Tuesday) and see what she's like," said Logan.

"Her win on Saturday was mind-blowing and she cleaned her bowl on Saturday night. She's mentally ok and physically ok to take over, but we'll wait and see. She's just so tough."
