Mapperley Stud service fees announced

New additions to the Mapperley stallion roster this season include impressive Australian Group One winners Contributer (High Chaparral) and Complacent (Authorized) who will stand alongside resident stallions He's Remarkable (Pentire) and Atlante (Fastnet Rock).

Having recently entered into an exciting partnership with breeding and racing heavy weights Godolphin in standing the stallions, Mapperley are thrilled to present arguably the most exciting stallions to enter stud in New Zealand in 2016.

Godolphin managing director Henry Plumptre said Contributer and Complacent were attractive first-season sire prospects ideally suited to New Zealand breeders. "The Darley stallions have always been well supported by New Zealand breeders in Australia and we have strong relationships with most of the key players over there," Plumptre said. "However, we are confident that the New Zealand domestic market has established a solid base for the future and we are placing these exciting horses over there to be part of that success".

Mapperley Stud principal Simms Davison said it was exciting for his Matamata-based farm to have access to sires of the calibre of Contributer and Complacent. "We are thrilled to be going into business with Darley in both of these tremendously talented racehorses," Davison said.

Contributer (High Chaparral - Serisia by Exit To Nowhere) is undoubtedly one of the most captivating middle distance racehorses seen in recent years and after winning twice at stakes level in the UK for trainer Ed Dunlop (Newmarket) the dual Group One winner joined Godolphin Australia in 2014.

Contributer hit the Australian racing scene with a bang, claiming the Gr.3 Coongy Handicap over 2000m on his first start. In the autumn of last year, trainer John O'Shea prepared Contributer to win all three starts, beginning with the Gr.2 Apollo Stakes before proving superior in the Gr.1 Chipping Norton Stakes and the Gr.1 Ranvet Stakes, earning him the title as Australian Middle Distance Horse of the Year.

Mapperley Stud had huge success with the progeny of High Chaparral with both So You Think and Dundeel being raised and grazed at the stud.

"I see no reason why the success we had with High Chaparral will not continue with his champion son Contributer," Davison said. "He is a wonderful-moving horse with great presence. I am really excited about showing him to breeders when he arrives at Mapperley."

Contributer will stand for NZ$15,000 + GST (LFG) for the 2016 season.
Complacent
Complacent

Meanwhile barn-mate Complacent (Authorized - Insouciance by Quest For Fame) race career was brilliant. Complacent's spring campaign as a three-year-old was a thrilling feat where he claimed three back-to-back wins which included the Gr.3 Gloaming Stakes (1600m) and was headlined by his victory in the Gr. 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

After a much celebrated purple patch it came as no surprise that Complacent opened as favourite for the Gr.1 Victoria Derby (2500m) in which he secured second place to smart galloper Polanski but subsequently resulted in a tendon injury - halting his career for nearly two years. After an extended rehabilitation program, Complacent returned to racing last year to win the Gr.2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), defeating multiple Gr.1 winner Kermadec (Teofilo), and then went on to win the Gr.3 Craven Plate (2000m).

"Complacent would be a value stallion for breeders", Davison said. "Complacent is a very exciting Group One-winning stallion who, due to injury, never reached his full potential. Breeders will get real value from such a talented, good-looking Australian athlete," Davison said.

Complacent will stand for NZ$5,000 + GST (LFG) for the 2016 season.
Atlante
Atlante

By champion sire Fastnet Rock, Atlante is a good looking stallion who ticks all the boxes. A Group One winner as a 3-year-old (NZ 2000 Guineas), the smart sprinter/miler is the only son of Fastnet Rock to have won at Stakes level in both Australia and New Zealand. Proving his true class, Atlante won at Stakes level in Australia as a 4-year old, defeating prolific sprinter and dual Group One Winner Trust In A Gust over 1200m with his devastating turn of foot.

Atlante will stand for NZ$7,000 + GST (LFG) for the 2016 season.
He's Remarkable
He's Remarkable

A genuine Group One horse, He's Remarkable had an exhilarating race career which saw him win the Gr.3 Newmarket Handicap (1400m), claim second place in the Gr. 1 NZ 2000 Guineas and a second in the Gr.1 Railway Stakes (1600m) despite being first past the post and controversially relegated to second.

By Pentire, from Axiom (by Zabeel), He's Remarkable is a full brother to boom three-year-old colt Xtravagant who won twice at Group One level last preparation.

In the sale ring, He's Remarkable's first crop of yearlings left quite the impression when selling for up to $110,000 (Lot 581 He's Remarkable - Sometimes colt) and averaging nearly 8-times his service fee (in the NZB Select session), proving a great investment for astute breeders.

He's Remarkable will stand for NZ$4,000 + GST (LFG) for the 2016 season.
