Hayes attacking with another Kiwi

Rising Romance - Hong Kong Jockey Club
Rising Romance

Hong Kong Jockey Club

It's a touch of deja vu for Australian trainer David Hayes as he goes into the Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday with yet another New Zealand owned and bred galloper.

Twelve months ago Hayes and his training partner, Tom Dabernig, were represented in the feature by the Sir Owen Glenn owned Criterion, who finished third, and this year their hopes rest with Rising Romance, the New Zealand mare who was formerly trained by Donna and Dean Logan.

Although she hasn't won since joining the Hayes – Dabernig stable, Rising Romance has three times been placed in Group One races, and was a last-start fourth behind Lucia Valentina in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick. According to Hayes, Rising Romance has settled in well in Hong Kong and will be aided by the prospect of rain.
