The Gr.2 Hollindale Cup at the Gold Coast on May 7 is the likely starting point for the Queensland campaign of Volkstok'n'barrell.
"We'll get through that race and it will determine whether he goes on to the Doomben Cup or if he drops back in class to something like the Lord Mayor's Cup," part-owner Garry Cossey said.
Volkstok'n'barrell returned home for a break after the multiple Group One winner was out of the money on an unsuitably slow track in the Gr.1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick earlier this month.
"He was bit tired after that, but he's doing well now," Cossey said.
