Win machine Saint Emilion is likely to head back to the central districts to crown a lucrative season with a black type success.

A stakes victory is all that is missing from the CV of the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained stayer who struck for the sixth time this season with a tenacious display on Saturday to down Storming The Tower in the J Swap Te Aroha Cup.

Providing he comes through the race well, Saint Emilion's next assignment is the Listed Hawke's Bay Cup at Hastings in seven days' time.

"I'll have a talk with Murray, but that's the logical thing to do," Forsman said. "He's better that way around as well – he got on one rein a bit today."

Saint Emilion made the running under Matt Cameron and the grey son of Mastercraftsman rallied bravely in the straight to score by a head.

The four-year-old has had two previous attempts at Listed level and finished seventh in the Kaimai Stakes before he was a beaten favourite in the New Zealand St Leger.

"He over-raced a bit and 2500 metres at Trentham was a bit too tough," Forsman said.

The stable will also be looking for higher honours for Bonniegirl, who successfully returned from a break in the Pyramid Trucking 1200.

"We'll be looking for some black type for her now," Forsman said.

Meanwhile, Matamata trainer Graham Richardson is already looking ahead to next season's spring features with Snapshot, who was a decisive winner of the Team Wealleans Handicap.

He was ridden aggressively from a wide gate by Craig Grylls to lead and they weren't tested in the run home for their sixth win in eight starts together.

Richardson said he would like to give Snapshot a run over a mile before spelling the Stravinsky gelding with the Hawke's Bay carnival his longer-term aim. – NZ Racing Desk.
