Trent Busuttin isn't focussing on the opposition that awaits Tavago in Saturday's $A2million Gr.1 Australian Derby at Randwick.
"He'll strip a fit horse and obviously the favourite Tarzino is a very good horse, but you can only worry about your own one," he said.
To be ridden by Tommy Berry, Tavago hasn't raced since he came from second last to run sixth in the Gr.1 New Zealand Derby in the hands of Noel Callow.
"His last 800 and 600 metres were the best of the day – it was a sensational run and Noel said he'd measure up in Australia," said Busuttin, who prepares Tavago with Natalie Young.
The Cambridge trainers also have strong feature race prospects closer to home with Mabeel a top chance in the Listed Fairdale/Goodwood Studs Flying Handicap at Awapuni.
