Jacob McKay's solo training career got off to a perfect start this afternoon when he produced Barnaby for a debut victory.
"It may only be a maiden at Matamata, but it's our home track and it's pretty special," he said.
McKay enjoyed a Group One-winning partnership with his father Peter before establishing a breaking and pre-training operation.
"I bought a property at the racecourse and people have offered us a couple of racehorses," he said. "I was lucky to get this horse from Lance Noble."
A half-brother by Shocking to the Gr.1 Easter Handicap winner Pasta Post, Barnaby was ridden by McKay's younger brother.
"It's pretty special to have Shaun on," he said. "He's given it a beautiful ride and the horse has done everything right, so I'm very, very happy. The way he found the line I think there is plenty more in store for him."
