Murray Baker is pleased with the progress of triple Group One winner Mongolian Khan heading into Saturday's Gr.1 The BMW.
Undefeated over 2400m, Mongolian Khan is the highest rated runner in the $1.5 million feature and improved markedly from his first up run in the Chipping Norton, when 11th of 12, to a hard fought fifth in the Ranvet Stakes.
"It's just been a case of getting the miles into him, but we were very pleased with his run in the Ranvet," Baker said.
"I think he's improved again from the run, and he's thriving here in Sydney and enjoying plenty of time in the pool. There was nothing wrong with the way he hit the line last week and he only missed third by inches."
A competitive field of ten has been assembled, with the participation of the Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained import Our Ivanhowe under a cloud, with the six-year-old battling a foot issue.
