Top mare earns well-deserved break

Stolen Dance - Trish Dunell

Stolen Dance's quest for a Group One victory will have to wait until next season.

The connections of the four-year-old have happily called time on her current campaign, and a highly profitable one it has been too, following her last-start fourth in the Gr.1 New Zealand Stakes.

"She's gone out for a spell," trainer David Greene said. "Unfortunately, she missed out on her last assignment, but she's had a very good preparation and has probably come to the end of it."

Stolen Dance's team of owners, managed by Dane McLeod, were all in agreement to send the daughter of Alamosa for a well-earned rest.

"As Dane said, she was on a Rating of 80 at the start of the season and she's now the top-ranked mare in the country," Greene said.

"She's just been so consistent and tough and it's a pleasure to be associated with her."

Stolen Dance won the Gr.3 Eagle Technology Stakes in her third appearance this term and added the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes before she entered the big time.

She then reeled off consecutive Group One seconds in the Zabeel Classic, the Thorndon Mile and the Herbie Dyke Stakes before her fourth placing in the New Zealand Stakes.

"The Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha is three weeks away and we know she is competitive at that level, but it would be unfair to push for one extra run and thankfully the owners feel the same and are happy to turn her out," Greene said.

"She's a brilliant miler who can get 2000 metres against the best so we can target two or three top races next season with her." – NZ Racing Desk.
