A charge against leading jockey Matthew Cameron has been dismissed.

The long-running case surrounded Cameron's ride on Mime at Ellerslie on January 9.

Cameron was charged by the Racing Integrity Unit with not taking all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure Mime was given full opportunity to obtain the best possible finish in her 1200m race at Ellerslie.

Delays in the availability of Cameron's counsel Alan Galbraith meant the Judicial Control Authority hearing did not take place until March 7.

At the end of that three-hour hearing, the JCA panel headed by Professor Geoff Hall reserved its decision.

The decision was finally released on Thursday and said the JCA committee understood why stipendiary steward Matthew Williamson questioned the ride on the day.

"We have particular concern with Mr Cameron's hesitancy when the gap presented itself on the rail.

"It was only after we satisfied ourselves the respondent had not sat up on the horse and, although there was reduced vigour, that he was still pushing the horse out, that we were satisfied there had been no breach of the rule."

Cameron had told the hearing that Mime was hanging out badly during the event. He said had given her every opportunity to finish in the best possible position having regard that he had been checked three times in the running.

Ross Neal appeared for the RIU and Galbraith for Cameron.

The decision comes two days before Cameron partners Mime in New Zealand's richest race for 3-year-old fillies, the New Zealand Oaks over 2400m, twice the distance of the Ellerslie race which spawned the charge.

Mime has won over 2000m and 2100m in the meantime and is second favourite for the Oaks.

Cameron was riding at Te Aroha on Thursday where he won a race aboard Hypervelocity and was unavailable for comment.
