Snowden says Bounding can set the record straight

Top trainer Peter Snowden believes punters should draw a line through Bounding's (Lonhro) first-up run when assessing her prospects inSaturday's $700,000 Group I Banjo Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick.

The former Kiwi Group I winner resumed at Caulfield on February 27 when beaten 2-3/4 lengths into ninth behind Flamberge in the Oakleigh Plate but Snowden, who trains the mare in partnership with his son Paul, says Bounding had a genuine excuse.

"I think it stemmed around it being a very hot day," Snowden said. "She had to go to the post preliminary for about 15 minutes and she just melted.

"She was in a lather of sweat and she's never been like that.

"Then she raced accordingly, reared up in the gates and nearly flipped over, overraced badly and that left her short."

The Randwick-based trainer is confident Bounding can produce a form turnaround on Saturday. He's been taken with the daughter of Lonhro's work and demeanour since she returned to her home stables.

"Kerrin (McEvoy) rode her in work on Tuesday and said it was very strong work," he said. "Actually it was the best work of the day from my team.

"With the benefit of that run and a bit more work under her belt I think she'll present much better on Saturday.

"If we get a soft track that won't worry her either. She's in the race up to her ears."

Bounding gets McEvoy back into her saddle on Saturday after being ridden by Mark Zahra at Caulfield and is a $12 chance at Ladbrokes. -racenet.com.au
