The time to head back into battle is drawing closer for one of the country's best-performed three-year-olds.
Dual Group One placegetter Battle Time is making all the right moves ahead of his timely return to racing for his Cambridge connections.
Cambridge trainers Tim and Margaret Carter and breeder-owner Allan Hayward recently had to give up their Gr.1 Auckland Cup dream with the colt's half-brother Farm Boy, who had a setback after his final gallop before the Ellerslie feature.
Battle Time's career has also been an interrupted one and he hasn't raced since he finished runner-up to Xtravagant in the Gr.1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas at Riccarton last November.
"Vinnie (Colgan) said he didn't feel 100 percent after that so we had him x-rayed and he had a tiny chip in his knee," Tim Carter said.
"He had it removed and he's coming along really well – he looks fantastic."
Battle Time has yet to win in 10 starts, but he has earned more than $140,000 with placings in the Gr.1 Diamond Stakes, the Gr.2 Hawke's Bay Guineas and the Listed Reid & Harrison Slipper to his credit.
"He's well on the way to being ready for the Breeders' Stakes at Te Rapa. Allan wants to have a crack at that and it looks a good race for the horse," Carter said.
The Gr.3 Inglis Sales Cambridge Breeders' Stakes will be run at Te Rapa on April 30. – NZ Racing Desk.
