Lightly raced three-year-old filly Cinematic made it a good day for team Collett when she dashed home to snatch a narrow but impressive victory at Ellerslie on the weekend.
Rider Alysha Collett timed her finishing run perfectly on the slightly wayward daughter of Dane Shadow, who is prepared at Pukekohe by her father Richard, as she dashed home from a midfield position to collar pacemaker Heart Of Th'Castle right on the winning post.
Collett admitted she hadn't been that confident of making it to the post in front despite having a lovely run throughout the race.
"She had a nice gate today and with a lot of speed on it gave me the opportunity to take a sit in behind," she explained.
"I wasn't that confident in the run home as she actually doesn't know what she's doing yet. She was changing legs and her ears were pricked but we got there though."
Richard Collett was confident going into the race despite suffering a setback with the filly after her last run where she finished second to the promising Marciano back in early January.
"She was supposed to run on Karaka Million night but she stood on a plate and punctured her sole so that's why she has had so long between runs," he explained.
"She's a filly who just keeps getting better and better. She only had one run as a two-year-old and was stakes placed so she has got quality."
Collett wasn't sure as to the immediate programme for the filly although an attempt at the Gr. 3 Cambridge Breeders' Stakes at Te Rapa on the 30th of April was a distinct possibility. – NZ Racing Desk
