Smart central districts three-year-old Shadows Cast will go into Saturday week's Gr.2 Go Racing Wellington Guineas at Trentham at the top of his game.
Under stable apprentice Timothy Johnson at Otaki on Thursday, the Mark Oulaghan-trained gelding beat the older horses carrying 58.5kg.
Shadows Cast has now won two of his seven starts, and placed in the Gr.2 Wellington Stakes, for owner Ron Cunningham who has knocked back all attempts to buy the son of Per Incanto.
