Talented southern mare Silhouette Noire will attempt to secure a start in the Gr.1 Fiber Fresh New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes when she makes her North Island debut in Saturday's Gr.2 Westbury Classic (1400m) at Ellerslie.

The Dane Shadow five-year-old mare was three times placed at Listed level when prepared by Christchurch's Terri Rae before her owners transferred her to Cambridge trainer Lee Somervell in January to chase further black-type opportunities.

"She's a beautiful mare and she's got above average ability," Somervell said.

"It is her first time right-handed at Ellerslie which sometimes catches them out, but I've given her a lot of work right-handed.

"She had a very good final gallop [on Tuesday] going right-handed so she could acquit herself quite well. I think she could be very competitive. If she proves she's up to it, which I'm pretty confident she will, then we'll certainly have a look at the Thoroughbred Breeders' at Te Aroha."
