A bold decision to take Rock My Soul to Australia in the spring has brought its rewards this year.

Part-owner and trainer Emily Holmes crossed the Tasman with the four-year-old off the back of a maiden win at Dargaville and a fifth placing at Ruakaka.

"We thought it was worth a go – Rating 65 horses can run for some good money away from town over there," the Matamata horsewoman said.

Rock My Soul placed at Pakenham, Swan Hill and Moonee Valley before he ended his Victorian campaign with a victory at Kyneton and $A22,500 banked from the venture.

"It was a learning curve for him and it's done him the world of good," Holmes said.

That has been apparent in the ease of his consecutive wins at Matamata and Otaki and Rock My Soul will attempt to complete a hat-trick in the White Cliffs Timber 1200 at Ellerslie on Saturday.

"He's taken a little while to put it all together and he's done it pretty easily at his last two runs," Holmes said.

"After Otaki he pulled up like it was just a track gallop."

Holmes, who took on Rock My Soul after his previous Hong Kong owners pulled the pin, said the Ellerslie outing was likely to be the horse's last before a break.

"It's been quite a long preparation and he's really only had 10 days off after he got back from Melbourne.

"There is a Listed race at Hawke's Bay in April that I could freshen him for if he won on Saturday, but he is more likely to go to the paddock for a good spell." – NZ Racing Desk.
