John Bell blames himself for Storming The Tower's failure in the 2014 Gr.1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup at Ellerslie, but the Cambridge trainer believes he has the Storm Creek gelding in the right order to set the record straight in this year's feature.
Storming The Tower finished 17th of 18 runners behind Who Shot Thebarman two years ago but has raised confidence with a string of good staying performances with fourth placings in the Waikato and City Of Auckland Cups, both over 2400m, and a last-start Taranaki Cup third over 1800m.
"The first time he went into the Auckland Cup, I did everything wrong. I had him too dour - but now he's working magic," Bell said.
"That Taranaki race with Robbie Hannam up was very pleasing. We've changed his work around completely - put him over the logs and kept him interested and he's responded really well."
