Heptagon (NZ) (Jimmy Choux) showed a clean pair of heels to win the Easy Waste 2YO Maiden Plate (1100m) at Ballarat on Wednesday, giving leading trainer Mick Price yet another scalp in a juvenile race.

Surprisingly, Price's Jimmy Choux colt was overlooked in the market, coming up closer to $20 than his starting price across the totes, despite Price's remarkable form with the babies this season.

Ridden by Craig Newitt, Heptagon settled back in the run and showed a ready turn of foot to pick up his rivals.

"I've trialled him a couple of times and he's shown he's above average," Newitt said post-race.

"Obviously it was a pretty strong maiden today.

"For him to come out and win like that ... the second horse has got a good future as well.

Heptagon was the first winner in Victoria for Rich Hill Stud stallion Jimmy Choux, who has already sired Group 3 winner Manolo Blahniq.

Bred by Nearco Stud, Heptagon is out of the stakes-winning O'Reilly mare Seven Schillings. He sold for $150,000 at the 2015 Premier Sale at Karaka, the highest-priced yearling from Jimmy Choux's first crop, when offered by Casey and Michelle Dando's Bradbury Park.
