Crack Kiwi jockey Opie Bosson can't wait for his first ride in the world's richest two-year-old race after this week landing the ride on French Fern in Saturday week's $A3.5 million Golden Slipper.
Bosson, who has won three Group One races in Australia in the past 12 months, was thrilled to secure the ride on the David Payne-trained French Fern, who sealed automatic entry into the Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill with her win in last Saturday's Gr.2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
"She's a form runner. She's won her last two and won nicely last weekend in a strong field," Bosson said.
"I'm looking forward to having a ride in the race. It's a race I've always wanted to ride in and it would be great to win it. I've got the ride on a filly who's going to give me that chance."
Lope De Vega filly French Fern has won two of her three starts, having run third in her other start at Randwick on Boxing Day on debut.
Golden Slipper day is shaping as a seminal day for Bosson, who has also been booked to ride the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained pair of Turn Me Loose in the Gr.1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and Mongolian Khan in the Gr.1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).
That pair have been a big help in providing Bosson with the biggest 12 months of his career, with Mongolian Khan winning the Gr.1 Australian Derby (2400m) at last year's Sydney autumn carnival before then going on to claim the Gr.1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) in Melbourne last spring, while Turn Me Loose claimed the Gr.1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last month.
Bosson has three Group One rides at Ellerslie on Saturday - perhaps his last Saturday meeting in New Zealand this season given his commitments in Sydney and Hong Kong in the coming weeks and months.
He rides the Baker-Forsman-trained Gasoline in the Gr.1 Sistema Diamond Stakes (1200m), a race the trainer-jockey combination claimed last year with Dal Cielo, as well as teaming up with stablemate Decorah in the Gr.1 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup (3200m) and the Royden Bergerson-trained New Zealand Oaks winner Savaria in the Gr.1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (2000m). - NZ Racing Desk
