Stolen Dance - Trish Dunell
Stolen Dance

Only one box awaits a tick from Stolen Dance to complete a dream season.

The mare has progressed ahead of time and has already gone close on multiple occasions to landing a perfect result for her connections.

"We sat down at the start of the campaign and talked about a few goals and we didn't really think she would win a Group Two and a Group Three so quickly and now she's been runner-up in three Group Ones as well," trainer David Greene said.

"With a little bit of luck in one of those races she might have picked one up, but she's done a great job and we'll be trying to win a Group One by the end of the season."

Stolen Dance's next opportunity will come in Saturday's Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes at Ellerslie with the Fiber Fresh NZ Thoroughbred Stakes' at Te Aroha on April 9 to follow.

"She'll be cherry ripe for the weekend and Sam Spratt will be riding her," Greene said.

"The plan is to finish up in the Breeders' Stakes and we've spaced her races out and she's continuing to do very well.

"I guess if she ran two more nice seconds the temptation and frustration might be too much not to go again, but we'll wait and see on that."

The final opportunity, if required, for a Group One victory would come in the Manco Easter Handicap on April 23.

While there is still unfinished business to attend to this term, tentative spring options have been considered.

"If we looked at Australia we would definitely kick off here, probably at the Hawke's Bay carnival," Greene said. "She needs good tracks and timing-wise it fits in well.

"There's still some physical improvement to come from her and her family aren't early-maturing horses." – NZ Racing Desk.
