Cosmic Cube has proven an excellent pickup ride for Tim Clark with the pair taking out the Listed National Sprint at Canberra.
With Jason Collett relinquishing his engagements for the day at Canberra, Tim Clark was the main beneficiary in picking up the National Sprint ride aboard the David Vandyke Cosmic Cube.
Clark rode Cosmic Cube in positive fashion, sitting just outside the leader.
The son of Dehere lengthened well and a half length win ensued over a fast closing Just A Blur with Lunar Rise sticking on well for third.
"It probably worked out great being drawn out wide," Clark said.
"He could just roll across under his own steam. We rolled at a nice even tempo throughout.
"The leader didn't take me as far as I would have liked. We got left out there in front a fair way from home. He was good and strong late."
Holding a feature race nomination for the Group 1 Doncaster Mile next month, trainer David Vandyke will look to book a start in the feature for Cosmic Cube Horseform through the Group 3 Doncaster Mile Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill on March 26.
"We might go to the Doncaster Prelude but I'll just see how he pulls up," Vandyke said.
"He has got good ability and he is going to progress forward from here. That was a stakes race today and he is good enough to win another one."
Vandyke has been patient with the former New Zealand gelding with Sunday's National Sprint only Cosmic Cube's second start since arriving in Australia from the Graeme and Debbie Rogerson stable.
"He ran third last prep then we put him away," Vandyke said.
"He was still a little bit immature."
