Little Bridge outguns favourite

Consistent sprinter Little Bridge (NZ) (Faltaat) showed his class in taking out the Group Two Jockey Club Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Ridden by Melbourne Cup-winning rider Gerald Mosse, the son of Faltaat (Mr. Prospector) proved he was amongst the very best sprinters in Hong Kong, lowering the colours of the John Size-trained favourite Entrapment (Halo Homewrecker).

Mosse was having his first ride on Little Bridge (NZ) after Zac Purton committed to ride Sacred Kingdom (Encosta De Lago) on Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Day.

"The way he ran, he will be a solid competitor in the big race," Mosse said. "He will be right up to it, because he won very easy today. I don't want to make everybody too excited, but he made me very happy.

"This horse is still young and coming up."

Undefeated in his first six starts in Hong Kong, Little Bridge (NZ) finished third in last year's edition of the Jockey Club sprint behind dead-heaters Rocket Man (Viscount) and One World (Danehill Dancer) before finishing a credible eight in the Group One Hong Kong International Sprint.

"Other than the Hong Kong horses and Rocket Man - I don't think it's a very hot race," trainer Danny Shum said of the upcoming Cathay Pacific International Sprint on December 11.

Bred by Wentwood Grange, Little Bridge (NZ) is by Faltaat from the Gold Brose (Huntingdale) mare Golden Rose (NZ) and was sold at the 2007 New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling Sale.

"It's nice to see a plan come to fruition," Wentwood Grange Stud Manager Dean Hawkins said, "We bred Little Bridge's dam Golden Rose then sold her to Stephen McKee."

"When we found out that another one of her progeny was going well, we bought her back and sent her to Faltaat and then sold both her and the weanling.

"We no longer have anything out of the family but it's very exciting to be able to breed an international Group Two winner.

"We are really looking forward to seeing him run on International Day."
