The Paul Belsham-trained Belle Cadeau impressed on Thursday when taking out the Wanganui Steelformers 1340m.
The five-year-old mare has been a work in progress, but has now won two of her eights starts, while she has placed on a further two occasions.
Ridden by Rosie Myers, Belle Cadeau benefited from the strong tempo set by Dan Cugat and Konohiki, camping off the speed to score by four and a half lengths in a blistering 1.19.56.
"She was bumped and got off stride at the wrong time at her last start at Trentham but hit the line well," Belsham said.
"She's always been hard work and it's taken a fair while to mentally grow up, but the penny has dropped now. We got a good trip and she won nicely."
