Ringmaster - Race Images Palmerston North
Wanganui stables invariably enjoy success at their home meeting and Evan and JJ Rayner have two strong chances to continue that local trend on Thursday.

They will be represented by the promising pair of Ringmaster and Flying Fletch with both three-year-olds having already posted early winning strikes.

Ringmaster was third on debut at Otaki in the spring before he made a successful return on his home turf in January and he is expected to go close again in the Lowe Schollum & Jones 1600.

"He's a pretty handy horse and the reason that he hasn't raced more recently was that he was under offer, but nothing has happened yet," Evan Rayner said.

"He's ready to go over a bit more ground and I think he'll be very hard to beat. He may go to Hawke's Bay next and then we could look at the Wellington Guineas."

Ringmaster will again be ridden by Jonathan Riddell, who will also continue his association with Flying Fletch in the Wanganui Steelformers 1340.

Riddell guided the gelding to a debut victory at Woodville in November and they didn't get the best of runs after a tardy start when seventh behind the unbeaten Natural Achiever in an age group event at Trentham.

"He's quite a smart horse and he was a bit unlucky last start," Rayner said. "He wouldn't have won, but he should have run a placing."

The stable are confident of a bold showing from Flying Fletch, who hasn't raced for more than two months.

"He won a jump-out last Friday so he's ready to go," Rayner said. – NZ Racing Desk.
