The Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs-trained Volkstok'n'barrell found the line well when resuming, finishing sixth behind Xtravagant in Saturday's Gr.1 NRM Sprint (1400m).
The Group One winning son of Tavistock will step up to a mile in the Gr.1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic at Otaki in a fortnight, and is building towards full fitness.
"We were very pleased with his run on Saturday, and Leith (Innes) said he just came to the end of it late," Chris Gibbs said.
"He's down about 12 kilos now, which is good, because he was a little bit chubby and he has come through the run well.
With Leith Innes likely to pilot Kawi in the Otaki Group One, Vinnie Colgan will take the ride on Volkstok'n'barrell.
