The John Sargent trained Gust Of Wind (NZ) (Darci Brahma) will kick off her autumn campaign in Saturday's Gr.2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick, but her long term target in the Gr.1 Sydney Cup (3200m).
"She'll likely have four runs before the Sydney Cup," Sargent said.
"It's two months until the race and is worth $2 million now so it's the logical target for her."
Sargent believes the 1400 metre Apollo Stakes will be too short for his four-year-old mare as he looks to race her into fitness.
"She weighs 515kg at the moment and races at around 485kg so she's still a bit heavy but she's exactly where I want her because I want her peaking on Sydney Cup day," he said.
