Positive post-surgery reports on Blizzard have provided David and Emma-Lee Browne with some much-needed good news.
The Cambridge couple's multiple winner and Group performer has been given the green light to resume work this week.
Blizzard had finished out of the money in his most recent appearances in the Gr.3 City of Auckland Cup and the Gr.3 Trentham Stakes before the problem came to light.
"He's had a cyst taken out of his sinus," Emma-Lee Browne said. "The vets said it was huge and he was still trying in his races without finishing off so it's explained a lot - it was a bit of a relief to find something.
"We've taken him out of the Auckland Cup and we'll just bring him back for a couple of starts and see how he goes."
Blizzard has won five races and also has a second placing in the Gr.2 Championship Stakes and a fourth in the Gr.3 New Zealand Cup on his CV.
His recovery has boosted the spirits of the stable, which has lost the services of two promising gallopers in Stratocaster and Deliverance.
Stratocaster looked well above average last season when he beat Turn Me Loose at Hastings before finishing fourth in both the Gr.2 Hawke's Bay Guineas and the Gr.2 Sarten Memorial and fifth in the Gr.1 NZ 2000 Guineas.
He was subsequently gelded and recently resumed with an encouraging sixth at Trentham after being blocked for a run in the straight.
"Unfortunately, he's gone amiss with a leg issue and we're not sure about his future," Browne said. "It's a real shame as he's showed so much ability."
Deliverance was a highly-regarded three-year-old who was nominated for last year's Gr.1 Livamol Classic as an unraced maiden.
"He fractured his knee at the trials and when they got him on the operating table there was too much damage and he had to be put down," Browne said. – NZ Racing Desk.
