Parkers Piece only knows one way and it's an effective style as she again demonstrated at Te Rapa on Saturday.
She was successful on the course three runs back and produced a near identical performance to outsprint her rivals in the Fasttrackinsurance 1200.
Parkers Piece was quickly into stride to make the play out in front and when Vinnie Colgan asked her for a serious effort in the straight she put her rivals away in a matter of strides.
"She's got great speed and she is a lot better suited going left-handed," trainer Tony Pike said.
"When she runs along at an even tempo she is hard to run down. Vinnie got a very soft lead on her and stacked them up and she's got a good kick."
A daughter of the ill-fated Northern Meteor, Parkers Piece has won three of her eight starts and Pike believes she could be in line for higher honours in 12 months' time.
"She's still maturing and hopefully this time next year we will be looking at some nice sprint races for her," he said.
While Parkers Piece was among the favoured runners, the J Swap Contractors Rating 75 produced a winner from the opposite end of the betting market with Luen Yat Miracle successful at odds of better than 30-1.
The Shane Crawford-trained gelding came with a withering run from well back in the field under Brendan Hutton, who was having his first ride back after a lengthy injury break.
"I've had a bad run, but all I can do now is to push onwards and upwards," he said. – NZ Racing Desk.
