Ashburton trainer Emily Wilson will have her first black type runner this weekend.
Wilson, who has only two horses in work, prepares the promising filly Ruby Row who has opened as third favourite for the Listed Dunedin Casino Dunedin Guineas (1400m) at Wingatui on Saturday.
Ruby Row, a $500 weanling buy at Karaka, has had just two starts and impressed both times.
The Battle Paint filly made a stunning debut at the New Zealand Cup meeting, beating 15 rivals to win a $30,000 maiden despite missing the start and racing wide throughout.
She ran on strongly again at her second start, when runner-up to the unbeaten Presentatie in a three-year-old 1200m event at Wingatui on Boxing Day.
Wilson has had the Dunedin Guineas in mind for her filly since her debut win, hence the trip to Wingatui at Christmas.
"It was her first trip away and she loved it," Wilson said.
Wilson, who has two young children, likes to have just a small team in work and Ruby Row has been her only runner this term.
Ruby Row will be ridden on Saturday by central districts jockey Darryl Bradley who has a good record in the Dunedin Guineas.
Bradley has often ridden at the Wingatui meeting and has had a win, two seconds and two thirds from his last five mounts in the Guineas, winning on Platinum Kingdom in 2013.
New Zealand Derby contender and Levin Classic runner-up Son Of Maher dominates the Dunedin Guineas market, opening at $1.95 on Thursday, with northern filly Princess Davone at $4.80 and Ruby Row at $7.50 and the only other runner at single-figure odds. – NZ Racing Desk.
