Noted yearling judge Chris Rutten went to $60,000 to secure a colt by Dalghar at Sunday's Festival Sale.

Sold by Adrian Stanley and Hannah Kettlety's Woburn Farm, the colt from Appleton's Lass was the second son of Dalghar purchased by Rutten this week, having earlier gone to $70,000 for a colt by the sire in the Select Sale.

"He is a strong colt with size and scope, Rutten said. "He looks like he will run and he could be a trade horse as well.

"We've heard good things about the Dalghars. They're winning trials and they have good speed and that's what we're looking for.

Both horses will join the stable of Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard, and will be given their chance to tackle next year's Karaka Million, just as stablemates Touche (2nd in 2013), Vespa (1st in 2014) and Kingsman (3rd in 2016) have done so successfully.

The sale represented the highest-price achieved to date by emerging, boutique vendors Woburn Farm.

"He exceeded our expectations," Woburn Farm's Adrian Stanley said.

"He's a lovely bodied horse with a great attitude."

"We're a boutique agistment farm based in Cambridge and this is our second year presenting a draft of yearlings for sale. We had a 100% clearance rate on the eight we offered last year and we also had a 100% clearance rate at the Select Sale this year, so we're really pleased. "– NZ Racing Desk
