Experience with the progeny of Rich Hill Stud stallion Jimmy Choux played a major role in the decision by Regal Farm principal Shane Crawford to outbid some fierce competition on a colt by the former New Zealand Thoroughbred Horse of the Year offered during Sunday's Karaka Festival session.
Consigned as Lot 1199 by Hawkes Bay's Lime Country Thoroughbreds, the handsome colt was the modicum of some strong competition during his time in the ring with Crawford successfully offering $80,000 to secure him.
Well known for their success at the annual New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale of two-year-olds in November each year, Crawford and partner Kara Waters acknowledged the youngster had every chance of being seen back at Karaka later in the year.
"We've enjoyed some good success at the Ready-To-Run's previously and this guy looks an ideal type for that sale," noted Crawford.
"He is a beautiful moving horse who is well balanced and has a good head, neck and shoulder to him. He is also nicely mannered and looks an early season type."
Crawford admitted to plenty of prior knowledge on the stock of Jimmy Choux having already broken in a number from the stallion's first crop to hit the local racetracks.
"I've worked with quite a few by him and have been impressed by them all. They are ready made racehorses and it's no surprise to see them selling so well again this year."
The progeny by Jimmy Choux have been well sought after during the opening five days of the sale with 19 yearlings sold at an average of $96,763.– NZ Racing Desk
