Fresh from setting a Stud record sale of $775,000 for a Savabeel colt during the Premier session of the National Yearling Sale series, Wairarapa's Little Avondale Stud were headed for the top again on day two of the Select sale as they received $200,000 for a Nadeem colt.

Bred and offered for sale as Lot 770 through the Little Avondale draft by their stallion manager Helen Phinney, the flashy brown colt attracted plenty of attention before being knocked down to the final bid of bloodstock agent Paul Moroney.

"He was a stunning colt and very reminiscent of his sire," said Moroney after the sale.

"I actually tried to buy Nadeem as a yearling but missed however I rated this colt near the very top of our buying list this year as he has so much of his father about him. He is a very well balanced colt with a great walk and comes from a mare that has left some top horses in the past."

That mare is Centaine Gu Li who was purchased in foal to Van Nistelrooy by Phinney at the 2004 National Broodmare Sale. Phinney sold the resulting colt at the 2006 New Zealand Bloodstock South Island Sale and he went on to perform with distinction in Hong Kong under the name More Bountiful, winning at Group Two level and being placed second in the Gr. 1 Hong Kong Classic Mile.

Phinney was cautiously optimistic prior to the colt's starring role in the auction ring however she was left speechless by the final result.

"I put a reserve of $60,000 on him and when the bidding started slowly I thought for a moment things weren't going to go to plan," she laughed.

"Then the bidding just took off and when it went past $100,000 I was in a little bit of shock. To get $200,000 is just a dream come true and I'm at a loss to explain just how good it feels." – NZ Racing Desk
